Walking Trails for Sorrento from Villa Carolina

Near Villa Carolina there are a number of walking trails running between the village of Priora and Sorrento or Massa Lubrense. The road was only built at the beginning of the last century; before that time, locals in the countryside would use these trails to reach the town markets.

From Piora to Sorrento along Via Sant'Antonio

This lovely trail runs along gardens and scenic overlooks, winding downhill to Sorrento near the Hilton Hotel in less than 20 minutes. This is just the final leg of a longer trail which begins in Torca, a village near Massa Lubrense at the tip of the the Sorrento peninsula. It was often used by women balancing large baskets of farm goods on their heads as they travelled to Sorrento to sell their wares at the market. Along the route, notice the arch where there was a tax collector stationed exacting payments for the goods to be sold.

The trail is quite strenuous on the return trip from Sorrento towards Priora, so we strongly recommend taking a bus back or calling for our shuttle service.

From Priora to Sorrento along Via Capodimonte

This trail passes right in front of the entrance to Villa Carolina, so you just need to follow it downhill and you'll come out near the Capodimonte Hotel in Sorrento.

From Priora to Massa Lubrense along Via Montecorbo

The trail leads to the town of Massa Lubrense, passing first through Santa Maria Annunziata, a delightful hamlet overlooking Capri where there is one of our favorite restaurants, "La Torre". In Massa Lubrense, you'll come out near a small chapel with colorful glass windows. Here you can continue on to Marina della Lobra to take a walk along the Mediterranean.
